GAME 9
by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach] Lambrick Park defeated Woodlands 73-31
Lambrick came out with something to prove and took it out on a short staffed Woodlands squad.
Woodlands' grade 12 post Zack Mackay picked up a thigh injury and could not perform at his usual high level and it was tough for the rest of the team to fill the void. Mackay was given the player of the game for his body of work throughout the year rather than that game.
Lambrick was impressive again with intense defence and a finely honed offensive set. Tyler Adams came off the bench and played strong for the Lions.
PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Tyler Adams (Lambrick Park)
Zack Mackay (Woodlands)
GAME 10
by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach] Brentwood College defeated Shawnigan Lake 71-46
A game of two halves between these two private school rivals. Shawnigan came out ready to play and gained energy from an opening 3 ball by Mostyn Findlay. Brentwood never flinched however and matched the Stags basket for basket. At the half it was 23-21 for Brentwood. I am not sure what words were spoken by head coach Blake Gage but they should be bottled and used only in case of emergency. Brentwood went on a 26-7 run and ended a very close and competitive game. For Shawnigan #9 Phillip Norris was selected Player of the game for his early shooting display that kept the game close in the opening quarters. Paul Lee from Brentwood knocked down 3 straight 3’s in the 3rd breaking the will of the Stags, he was the POG for BCSS.
PLAYER OF THE GAME - TBD
GAME 11
by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach] Lambrick Park defeated Brentwood College 62-40 to earn the 3rd and final BC Championship berth.
A game was close at the half with Lambrick up only three at 27-24. But then Lambrick clamped down on defence with a 20-5 3rd quarter and showed why they are the defending BC Champions on their way to a 62-40 victory.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Paul Lee (Brentwood College)
Austin Somers (Lambrick Park)
GAME 12
by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach] St. Michaels defeated Kwalikum 73-36 to take the Island Championship.
It was the St. Michaels with a good start as they scored early and often on the defenceless Kondors. By half it was 37-19 and very little to be done by the host school.
St. Michaels was better in every aspect of the game and the Kondors had nothing left in their tanks after losing defensive stalwart Wylder Carson Austin to injury.
St. Michaels was crisp and very well coached
and will have to be a strong favourite at the upcoming BC's.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Jesse Goring (Kwalikum)
Callum Montgomery (St. Michaels)
