GAME 1

by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach]  In the opening game both teams showed their nerves with precious few points being scored and both teams looking tentative.  The score at half reflects the amount of pressure and nerves both teams felt.  Shawnigan Lake was the first team out of the gates in the second half going on a 8-4 run.  The Kwalikum Kondors responded with their own run of 9 capped off with a 3-pointer end the 3rd quarter.  The 4th saw the scoring going back and forth until the Kondors took the lead 38-32 with 5minutes to play.

The final was 49-38 for Kwalikum.

Player of the game went to Shawnigan Lake's man in the middle, Litha Ncanisa who had 7 blocked shots and altered many more.  Kwalikum's grade 11 standout Lucas Spasato responded with 17pts for the Kondor's game star.

GAME 2

by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach]  A good start for both teams as Barsby showed their athletic ability and Lambrick worked the 3-pointer.  End of the first quarter it was 17-16 for Barsby. The rest of the first half went the same way with each team exchanging hoops. At the half is was 36-29 Lambrick.   In the 2nd half the Lions from Lambrick came out shooting coupled with great rebounding and outscored Barsby 20-7 in the frame.  Barsby tried to come back in the fourth but Lambrick was too strong.

The final was 64-50 for Lambrick.

North Rainey did all he could to keep Barsby close and was the game star with 19 pts. Austin Somers played heads up basketball for 4 quarters and despite a cold start, heated up for 20 pts in the end.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

North Rainey (John Barsby)

Austin Somers (Lambrick Park)

GAME 3

by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach]  Brentwood College came out attacking and jumped all over Woodlands to the tune of 20-5 after just 1 quarter.

Woodlands never quit but they had a hard time handling the Brentwood pressure and trailed 33-17 at the half.  Brentwood scored from the inside and the outside while Woodlands had to use 6’ 9” Zack Mackay (25 points) to break the pressure and he started to heat up from the outside but they could not get a run together.

Woodlands' Griffin Douglas played as well as he could with multiple steals and clutch rebounds and earned the game star for Woodlands.

In the end, Brentwood College had just too many weapons.  Brentwood's Player of the Game Skyler Rustad had a game high 29 points.  Devin Cvitanovich and Paul Lee were tremendous supportive cast members and proved too much for the Eagles to match.

The final was 68-44 for Brentwood College.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Griffin Douglas (Woodlands)

Skyler Rustad (Brentwood College)

GAME 4

by Butch Gayton [Qualicum Beach]  St. Michaels had just too much firepower for the undermanned Ladysmith team to handle.  Smothering defence, high tempo fast breaks and scoring from the inside and the outside.  Jason Scully was a man amongst boys for the few minutes he played.  He was the Blue Jags game star.  St. Michaels rotated players every minute but never let the foot off the throttle.  A very convincing team win.

The lone bright spot for Ladysmith was the play of Nick Hayton who has become one of the better 1-on-1 players on the island.  Hayton was the only 49er to penetrate the wall of defence and knocked down 19 points mostly of the spectacular variety.

The final was 69-40 for St. Michaels.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Nick Hayton (Ladysmith)

Jason Scully (St. Michaels)
